Be forewarned, if you are sensitive then you may be offended by what I have to say… The ugly truth is that everything most small business owners know about Marketing is WRONG. The sad reality is that the world has been brainwashed by big corporate advertising. TV killed the radio star and it nearly killed Marketing with its “Creativity and Repeat” formula designed for big companies with deep pockets.

The Biggest Problem with Small Business Marketing

is that small business owners (and most marketers) try to mimic Coke and Pepsi and create fluffy, pretty ads and use jingles and all sorts of other non-sense to advertise their business. Worse yet, small business owners tend to follow the trend and copy what everyone else is doing. Monkey -See-Monkey-Do! Another pitfall is confusing running a business with running a promotion. So many small businesses are running a promotion, telling the world what it is they do, mostly emphasizing service, quality, dependability, and price, and not getting enough sales. Passion fuels the small business owner and Marketing Delivers Results. If it doesn’t, you’re running a (very expensive) promotion.  Every dollar you spend on Marketing should yield at least a 5 fold return on investment.

The Secret to Marketing Success

is no secret at all. You must have a Rock-Solid, Bullet-Proof Marketing Plan, Strategy, and System. Just like a road trip, you need a plan to go from Point A to Point B, have a good sense of direction, driving skills, and have an ability to read the map and figure out the best way to get to your end destination. It helps when you have a good navigator, a guide of sorts.
